Malaysian Grid for Learning (MyGfL) is the strategic initiative and a vital part of the Malaysian government's commitment to the creation of a knowledge-based society. MyGfL is expected to cater for the educational needs of learners and educators of every age, in both formal and informal learning environments, towards achieving national excellence in education.

Being the national learning grid, MyGfL portal will be owned and managed by the Malaysian government via the Ministry of Education (MOE).

The MyGfL Formal Learning portal offers all schools in Malaysia a one-stop gateway to all educational resources in Malaysia and other countries.

By adopting SCORM 2004 standard and metadata, MyGfL learning objects are able to be identified, searched, shared and even tracked a learner's progress. IMS QTI  standard is being used for test item bank.

About MyGfL

MyGfL (Formal Education) portal was proposed and developed by :
BumiUtama Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd, and its strategic partner, Intrix Avante Sdn Bhd, using open source technology conforming to JSR 168 Portlets Specifications and J2EE standard.

MyGfL portal was designed and developed in close collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Malaysia divisions, namely :
  • Curriculum Development Centre
  • Teachers Training Division
  • Malaysian Examination Syndicate

This project was funded under the Ministry of Science and Technology Grant Scheme, known as DAGS (Demonstrator Application Grant Scheme) provided by Mimos Berhad, to demonstrate the "proof-of-concept" application as per the project objectives.

Leander,

...what are the objectives of MyGFL? Will it be introduced to all schools later?

Mr Lim,

I am curious as well. What is actually MyGfL?  If the portal is as good as what you have mentioned, then I am very eager to get the first hand knowledge about this programme and hopefully this portal will help to keep track on our students' learning progress so that teachers will be able to design and plan their lessons to suit the students' proficiency level.

Regards.  Smiley
