when writing the chemical equation or ionic equation, should i put in the symbol (aq), (l), (g), (s). I'm confused with it because my last year che.teacher say that it is not necessary to write those symbols while the teacher who teached me this year asked us to write it out . In addition, these two teachers are new teachers , so whom should i follow?

Actually the physical states of the compounds are not necessary to be written in the chemical equation. Otherwise, if one of the physical state for the compound is wrong, the whole  chemical equation will be wrong and no mark will be given.  So, it is more safety to write the chemical equation without written the physical states.

how about the ionic equation?

also the same as the chemical equation... without the physical state... of course if you are planning to further your study in Form 6, you better learn it from now.... otherwise, you aren't able to write the state when you study in Form 6..... just an advise....

For the early part of learning writing chemical equation (Form 4 Chapter 3), try not to be too burdened with the writing of the physical states of substances. Students will be easily put off and give up in writing equations. In the later part of Form 4 after learning of the solubility of salts (Chapter Cool, then they can incorporate the physical states in the equations. But for SPM exams, students are not required to write the physical states of the substances in the chemical equations.
