Why can't i use the double precipitation method to prepare soluble salts?

E.g  to prepare magnesium chloride .  can i use magnesium sulphate and barium sulphate? crystalise the filtrate ?

There is no reaction between the chemicals suggested.
Double decomposition method is meant for insoluble salt, whereby one has to use 2 solutions containing the cations and anions present in the insoluble salt.
For magnesium chloride / any soluble salts. you have to use an acid ( that contain the anion of the soluble salt) and metal/ metal oxide/ metal carbonate; in this case hydrochloric acid with magnesium/ magnesium oxide/ magnesium hydroxide / magnesium carbonate.
