FMS SGH, MRC Stampin Chapter, Kuching Life Care Society Organized Blood Donation Campaign themed "It Takes All Types - Giving is Living"



In conjunction with the World Blood Donors Day Celebrations, which falls on 14 June 2009, Faber Mediserve Sdn Bhd, together with Malaysian Red Crescent Stampin Chapter and Kuching Life Care Society will be organizing a Blood Donation Drive on 20 June 2009 at Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank.

Faber Mediserve Sdn Bhd is one of the subsidiary company of Faber Group and Faber Mediserve Sdn Bhd's main service is to provide Support Service to the Hospitals under Ministry of Health. These services include Facility Engineering Maintenance Services (FEMS), Biomedical Engineering Maintenance Service (BEMS), Cleansing Services (CLS), Linen & Laundry Services (LLS) and Clinical Waste Management Services (CWMS).

Faber Group has actively organizing such Blood Donation Campaign since year 2000 at Hospitals in Perak, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perlis, Sabah and Sarawak. In year 2008, Faber Group has organized Blood Donation Campaign at 14 locations, which includes launching location at Faber Head Office, Faber Tower, KL and consension hospitals. Throughout these campaigns, Faber Group has successfully recruited total 1477 donors. This year, Faber Group has extend their skop by increasing the numbers of locations from 14 to 25 hospitals.

Lastly, the organizing team urges the public and readers to come and support the Blood Donation Campaign. At the same time, MRC Stampin Chapter will be organizing Organ Donation Campaign. Souvenir & Certificates will be given to the first 100 successful blood donors. You are eligible to donate blood if:

   1. You are in good health today.
   2. You are between 18-60 years old.
   3. Your weight is above 47kg (ladies) and 50kg (men).
   4. You have more than 5 hours of sleep.
   5. You are free from any medical problems eg: High Blood Pressure, Heart Diseases, Surgery in recent 6 months, Migraine, Flu, Fever & etc.
   6. You have not taken any medication recently.
   7. You have taken a light meal before donating blood.
   8. You are not involved in Homosexual Relationship, Bisexual Relationship, Multiple Sexual Partners or have sexual contact with those mentioned.
   9. Your last whole blood donation was more than 3 months ago.
  10. You have no dental extraction within the last 24 hours.
  11. You have not consumed alcohol within the last 24 hours.
  12. You have not taken any immunization within the last 3 weeks.
  13. For lady donors, you are not pregnant, not taking contraceptive / hormone pills, not breastfeeding, not delivered less than a year and not menstruating.
  14. You have not received any letter or phone call from the Blood Bank regarding the result of your blood donation.
  15. You have not stayed in Europe since 1980 to the present for 6 months or longer.

Donate blood save life.

That's true, donate blood does save lives. Blood is not able to be made artificialy, therefore we need people to donate blood, making sure that the blood supply is sufficient.

Don't worry, you won't smell anything blood during the transfusions, this is because everything is done in a close loop, your body, needle, tubes and bags are totally closed, not exposing to outside world, which lead to infections. Therefore blood donation cause no harm.

You will only smell blood when blood splash on the floor or any place, however, the quantity of blood has to be big enough to create the smell for you. Frankly speaking, the blood smells nothing like a rusty metal gate. Smiley
