hai everyone & anyone,
i'm not too certain regarding the number of decimal places required when taking measurement for paper 3.
I am referring to Q2, Paper 3 SPM 2003 measurement of height of precipitate using a centimetre rule. the accuracy required is 0.1cm whereas Q1 paper 3 Trengganu 2008 Trial exam, measurement of length of rubber strip using centremetre rule also, the accuracy required is 0.01 cm.

Please enlighten , thank u.

another question please !
for paper 3 stating the constant variables: How many should students give ?  Some sourses say only 1 ? some say at least 2 ? the more the merrier or .......? I'm confused
 thank u once again

Correct me if I am wrong...
To determine the decimal places, we use this formula :
The smallest calibration / 2

Examples : 1.   The smallest calibration for ruler is 0.1 cm,
                     so, the decimal places is 0.1 / 2 = 0.05 (2 decimal places)
Therefore, the reading will be 3.00 cm, 3.50 cm, 4.10 cm ...

               2.  The smallest calibration for burette is 0.1 cm3
                    so, the decimal places is 0.1 / 2 = 0.05 (2 decimal places )
Therefore, the reading will be 10.00 cm3, 12.50 cm
                    3, 16.10 cm3 ...

What Liew gave as the answer is correct.
As for constant variable, one will be sufficient. If student gives 2, it is still ok if it does not contradict with it. Better ask students to give one good answer then
