TQ for the info.  I tried to key in the formula as given in the powerpoint, surprisingly the results are the same as for the 2 groups of students I'm testing. Refer to post and attachment below:

Tips For Teachers
  • Equip students with all the necessary keywords, content points and details associated with the topics/themes listed in the English textbooks.
  • Draw students’ attention to the structure and language features of the different genres of writing listed in their English textbooks through model essays
  • Consider doing  error analysis with the students after each marking session.
  • Consider providing intensive practice on selected grammatical items.
  • Teach the weaker students the baby step to writing.  Prepare them well before asking them to compose a piece of writing.
  • Teach the students the mechanics of the language, such as the form, style, structure and the rules governing syntax.  These are the beginning of acquiring proficiency in the use of English Language.
  • Teach the students to identify errors in their writings and exercises and correct them accordingly
  • Encourage our students to read extensively.  Extensively reading is a useful tool for generating ideas for writing as well as a means of exposing the students to the vocabulary, idioms, conventions, and nuances of written language.
  • Carry out prewriting activities in the class.  They are very important because they help to generate ideas; they encourage free flow of thought and help students to discover both what they want to say and hot to say it on paper.  In other words, prewriting activities facilitate the planning for both the product and the process.
  • Consider teaching and training your students  to carry instruction as detailed on the question paper regarding the particular information required.
