What is the ionic equation for the reaction between calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid?
CaCO3 + 2HCl --> CaCl2  +  CO2  +  H2O
Ionic eq 1 : CaCO3  +  2H+ -->  Ca2+  +  CO2  +  H2O
Ionic eq 2 : CO32-  +  2H+  -->  CO2  + H2O

All chemistry teacher, can u please tell me which ionic equation is correct, equation 1 or 2? Thanks..

My opinion:

Ionic eq 1 : CaCO3  +  2H+ -->  Ca2+  +  CO2  +  H2O

is correct.

because Calcium carbonate is in solid state.

Molecular Equation:

CaCO3(s) + 2HCl(aq) ---> CaCl2(aq) + H2O(l) + CO2(g)

Total Ionic Equation:

CaCO3(s) + 2H+(aq) + 2Cl-(aq) ---> Ca2+(aq) + 2Cl-(aq) + H2O(l) + CO2(g)

Net Ionic Equation:

CaCO3(s) + 2H+(aq) ---> Ca2+(aq) + H2O(l) + CO2(g)
