Hai everybody,

I do agree with what Mr. Joseph and with Mr.Mohd Sabli. In my opinion, there are times when to use the language in a formal way and when you just want to be English. Now we can see that a lot of students knows what is chatting. They use any language or way of expressing their message. The time that we teach our learners are when they have formal lesson. There are some too, during the informal activities, where teachers do correct the sentence being wrongly used. But anyway, there are some who will create new words of English. These are the creative one and also innovative when to use it....

I like to refer to an advertisement,  about a tourist who is asking some students in a bus, whereabout is the national monument....... Just think about it..... If we cannot start with one hundred , why not we start with one......
This mean , a hundred people know what to do but could'nt care less, so better start with one.... and I refer it as you Mr Joseph.... Just keep up the good work and sooner or later , someone will follow, and it takes time , so patience the best policy.......

Just sharing.......

Be yourself, knowing what is right or wrong........

I agree with Mr.Joseph. We should use proper language though it is not properly expressed. We can always learn and there are so many english expert here to help with our grammar mistakes. No harm right?

In this forum we have 4 languages used, BM, English, Iban and Chinese. If you can't communicate in English well, you can always use Bahasa Malaysia to express your words. Bahasa Iban and Mandarin should be discussed under their respective categories only.

But i totally disagree of using sms languages. This is forum and not chatting room. We are being observed by others, especially young ones. And we are teachers some more. Mmmm.....Just my 1 cent view...

Thanks for such wonderful comments and I have nothing much to say other than a pledge that I will continue to support our forum and thus the site generally.
I believe in giving the very best especially in my teaching. As such I for one do not believe in examination to gauge the standard of achievement in our students. Years ago, when I was still teaching in school, I marked my achievement not entirely from the official results but rather from the many 'thank you' that I got from my former students years after they have left school. It is a joy really to see my former students coming back to school to say 'hello' to me.
From my experience too, of all tecahers that have ever taught me, there are two very special teachers that I really admire and respect. One is retired now and who is a father to our Mr. Jerome and the other one is Mr. Tham Muk Sui, my former Geography school teacher. They are my ideal teachers not because they are strict disciplinarians but rather because they helped to mold me into what I am now.
I truly enjoy reading the contents of this forum. I learned so much about our teachers and our predicaments. In the late 60's and early 70's, our English standard was very high as could be seen from some of our retired teachers qualification at that time. Would you expect a teacher with only Primary Six qualification nowadays?
Teaching is a learning process too for me, and as such any feedbacks or comments that I received, I will always take them professionally with a firm belief that those comments will help me in improving myself.
Thanks once again.

If it is a must, by all mean use the suffix 'lah'. I wonder if we use 'lah' when we talk with our immediate superior. Thus, if we don't use 'lah' in official functions, I couldn't see the reason why we should use 'lah' in our daily every day chores.
Something to ponder, ' a lie which is being told contless times will become an accepted truth'.

Yes, it is still on. We try to learn to drop all the mistakes as we go on this platform until we come to a state that we have learn a lot and improve ourselves. To make the difference must come from ourselves. Let Phua Chu Kang do his job , and ours be our masterpiece.......

Have we ever discussed what proper means when we talk about this topic? In my opinion, proper doesn't only mean correct but polite as well. Even if we say something correctly but with harsh words, we still can't consider that as proper. For example, in BM, if we say "[Censored] kau!" is it proper enough? Grammatically, yes. In term of politeness, no. So, it is not enough to use correct English but use polite English as well. same goes with BM.

Hai everybody ,

The word ' proper '  means

1. right , suitable or correct
2. socially or legally correct correct and acceptable
3. real or of a good and generally accepted standard
4. complete
5. very polite and careful to do what is socially correct

Meaning that the word proper refers to everything.
