Dear friends in chemistry,
Please refer to the file attached which contains 1 paper 3 question. The question says the observations of the experiment are shown in Diagram 1 and it askes "complete Diagram 1 by stating the observations for the reaction of metals with lead(II)nitrate solution. (3 marks).
      My query is :
Should the student's answer be based strictly on the observation given? i.e just give the answer as "the zinc strip becomes thinner" as can be seen in the diagram . What about if the stutent answers " 1. The zinc strip becomes thinner,; 2. a shiny grey metal is deposited ' Answer No. 2 is based on the theory and NOT from the observation. Should students be betul-betul very very observant about the diagram given?

I would like to share my opinion:

Both answers are accepted.
because the we can't penalized them although we cannot see from the diagram. But in actual fact, we can observe the grey solid deposited during the experiment.

Just to share my opinion.
For Paper 3, a written Practical Paper,  one of the skills tested is Observing, for me it should be strictly based on the diagram given - to test student's ability to record observation based on what is given

Paper 2 is more towards theory, all other possible answers can be accepted.

Thank you Mr. Jong & Mr. Wong for your opinions.
But, dear Mr. Jong, I would appreciate very much if we could get a confirmatory answer from a marker. Wonder if you could help to ask around. Thank you very much,
