Thanx for sharing~ Smiley

not using d electrolyte contain d metal ions same as anode,d anode metal ions won't selected to be discharge at the cathode?? Huh

Anode is the plating metal and the electrolyte must contain the metal ion of the plating metal. At the cathode, the metal ion from the electrolyte will be discharged and plate the cathode. Smiley

In my opinion, if we use electrolyte contain the others metals ions other than anode, reaction between the metal ions and electrolyte will occur due to the different in electropositivity (such as displacement). It will influence the product at cathode since the positions of these ions in electrochemical series will influence the ions choosen to be discharged at cathoe.

using acid also can right? other than the electrolyte which contain the metal ion.
