A daniell cell : Zn/Zn2+// Pb/Pb2+
What ion will be reduced at positive terminal?
Lead(II) ion or Hydrogen ion?
Any suggestion? Thanks

Hi,
To my understanding, Daniell cell consists of Copper in copper(II) sulphate solution and zinc in zinc sulphate solution. Other type of cells are called standard cells (those consisting of 2 half cells).
As for the discharge of lead(II) ions, if lead(II) ions is concentrated, then lead(II) ions will be discharged.

Welcome comment and intellectual discourse!

Mr.Jong, u mean that if the magnesium electrode immersed in magnesium sulphate and other metal likes iron electrode or zinc electrode immersed in their nitrate solution are NOT call Daniell cell? Its call standard cell?
Bout the discharging of lead(II) ion, the question didn;t mention is concentrated. Just lead(II) nitrate solution. Can we assume is concentrated?

According to what i know, daniell cell make up of zinc and copper electrode using two electrolytes contain zinc and copper (II) ions. The other cell that using different metals besides that pair (zinc/copper) is know as chemical cell. Usually the questions in SPM will state the concentration. If dilute electrolyte, hydrogen ions will be discharged. but for concentrated solution, lead (II) ion will be discharged.
